MacTaverne — Pub, Auberge & Weekend Getaways in Val-David
Why Choose Val-David for a Weekend Getaway?
Val-David isn’t a resort town or a manufactured destination. It’s a real village — one shaped by artists, outdoor lovers, and people who care about quality of life.
That’s exactly what makes it such a great weekend escape.
Close to Montréal, Worlds Away
Just about an hour north of the city, Val-David feels far enough to unplug without requiring a long drive. You can leave Montréal after work on Friday and still arrive in time for dinner.
A True Four-Season Destination
Every season brings something different:
Summer and fall are ideal for cycling and hiking
Winter turns the area into a snowy playground
Spring is quieter, peaceful, and perfect for slow weekends
Authentic, Not Touristy
No chain hotels. No cookie-cutter restaurants. Just a welcoming village where locals gather, visitors linger, and things move at a human pace.
Things to Do in Val-David
Cycling & Biking
P’tit Train du Nord
One of the most beautiful cycling routes in Québec, the P’tit Train du Nord runs directly through Val-David. The paved trail is accessible for casual riders while still offering long stretches for more ambitious cyclists.
Ride through forests, alongside rivers, and between villages — with plenty of spots to stop for coffee, views, or lunch.
MacTaverne sits directly on the trail, making it an easy place to start, stop, or stay overnight.
Hiking & Nature
Val-David–Val-Morin Regional Park
With more than 20 km of trails, this park offers everything from easy walks to challenging climbs, all with rewarding views.
Nearby mountains like Mont Condor Ouest, Mont King, and Mont Césaire are popular with locals and offer a variety of terrain and difficulty levels.
Winter Activities
Skiing & Snowboarding
Several ski hills are just minutes away, including Mont Alta, Belle Neige, and Vallée Bleue. Spend the day on the slopes, then return to the village for a warm meal and a comfortable night’s sleep.
Cross-Country Skiing & Snowshoeing
In winter, the P’tit Train du Nord transforms into a cross-country ski trail. Snowshoeing and winter hiking are also popular ways to explore the surrounding forests.
Exploring the Village
Val-David is known for its creative spirit.
Browse local galleries, artisan shops, cafés, and bookstores. Visit the historic Gare de Val-David cultural center. Wander without a plan — the village rewards curiosity.

MacTaverne — Val-David
In Val-David, MacTaverne has the charm of those places where you settle in comfortably… and find it hard to leave. Here, timeless classics are celebrated with care: a perfectly poured Guinness, thoughtfully prepared food, and genuine hospitality. Simple, warm, and just right — the kind of pub you quickly want to make your own.
A Family Affair
MacTaverne is, above all, a family project.
Tim Robertson (formerly of Barroco Group, Hiatus, Sora 45, and Rose Orange) shapes the overall vision, bar program, and wine list. His approach is refined but approachable, focused on balance, pleasure, and hospitality that never feels forced.
His wife, Lindsay Hughes (also formerly of Barroco Group), oversees human resources and guest experience, ensuring the atmosphere remains welcoming, relaxed, and attentive from the moment guests arrive.
In the kitchen, Tim’s brother Mike Robertson (formerly of Parasol, Hôtel Herman, and Beba) leads with a confident, thoughtful hand. His cooking is precise, generous, and rooted in comfort. Alongside him is his partner Jennifer Nguyen, an exceptionally talented pastry chef whose desserts bring a perfect finishing touch to the table.
Behind the scenes, Lynne and Craig Robertson, the parents, provide the steady foundation — experience, perspective, and cohesion — that anchors the entire project.
On the Plate
The cuisine at MacTaverne champions timeless pub classics, executed with precision: impeccable fish and chips, scotch eggs, tavern burgers, and beautifully cooked steaks sourced from David and Philip’s farm.
Throughout the seasons, Mike builds dishes around what his partner farmers deliver. The food is honest, seasonal, and thoughtful: comfort cooking that respects its ingredients.
And don’t leave without dessert. Jennifer’s Sticky Toffee Pudding is rich, decadent, and absolutely worth saving room for.
To Drink
At the bar, the pub spirit is expressed without compromise. You’ll find beer poured properly, carefully crafted cocktails inspired by Tim’s seasonal ideas, and a well-chosen wine list designed to be enjoyed rather than overthought. Everything is intentional, balanced, and inviting.
MacTaverne doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel — it refines it. People come for the impeccable execution, the warmth of the welcome, and the feeling that makes you ask, “Where else can I find this?”
And if you want to extend the experience, the inn upstairs completes the picture. Breakfast is just as thoughtful and satisfying as everything else — we promise.
MacTaverne Inn + Pub is the realization of a place built by people who truly love to host, drawing on more than 50 years of combined hospitality experience across the family.
Enjoy the discovery.
