Why MacTaverne Is Closing Wednesdays and Thursdays

By Tim Robertson·on August 18, 2026

We've got some good news to share. It's not from the kitchen, or the bar, or a new cocktail with a questionable name.

It's from home.

Starting September 9, MacTaverne will be closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The pub, the auberge, the seven rooms, all of it. The rest of the week, Friday through Tuesday, we'll be open as usual in Val-David, with Mike in the kitchen, Tim at the bar, proper pints, and the same table waiting for you.

But on Wednesday and Thursday nights, Mike and I will be somewhere else.

Home.

Mac is two. My youngest is three months. Mike's little one is six months. Three tiny kids between the two of us means a lot of bottles, a lot of bedtime negotiations, and a few family dinners we'd like not to miss.

Since opening MacTaverne in the old Baril Roulant space, we've had the pleasure of welcoming you seven days a week. And honestly, it's been a gift. Seeing the pub full, the rooms booked, cyclists coming off Le P'tit Train du Nord, families settling in, regulars coming back, that's exactly why we built this place.

But hospitality doesn't start in a restaurant. It starts at home.

So we're keeping two fixed nights for our own people too. Two nights around our own tables, filling our own glasses, getting the little ones to bed, probably missing bedtime anyway, and coming back Friday with the right kind of energy.

The good part is simple: nothing changes the other five days.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, the pub is open. The auberge is open too. You can still come for dinner downstairs, sleep upstairs, wake up in Val-David, and head back toward the Rivière du Nord, the Laurentians, or the trail. Still our kind of luxury.

If you already have a reservation on a Wednesday or Thursday after September 9, we'll contact you directly to find a new date or issue a refund. No surprise at check-in, no unnecessary headache.

Thanks for being so good to us through this first year. MacTaverne is growing, quietly, with your tables, our kids, our team, and a few more ideas still tucked in the drawer.

See you Friday.
