Where to Eat in Val-David

People ask me this at least once a week: where do you eat in Val-David? I'll be upfront, I'm not exactly a neutral source here.

The village has plenty of good places. Cafés, bakeries, neighbourhood spots that have been around for years. Go explore them, it's a nice village to wander around hungry in.

That said, if you're looking for somewhere to actually sit down, here's one option. We're in the old Le Baril Roulant building, right in the middle of the village. Same address, new crew since 2025: Mike in the kitchen, me at the bar.

The menu is short, on purpose. The steak du moment changes with what Mike gets from his farmers, piri piri chicken, a linguine that follows the season, and the fish and chips, beer battered haddock, still our calling card but not the whole story. A MacTaverne Lager or a properly poured Guinness while we get your table ready.

In summer, the terrasse looks out over the Rivière du Nord, and people coming off Le P'tit Train du Nord end up here more than you'd guess. In winter, we light the fireplace and stay inside.

And if the evening runs a little long for driving home, there are seven rooms upstairs, no more. Dinner downstairs, bed upstairs, back on the road tomorrow.

So there's my answer, bias included. But if you're passing through some evening, we'll keep you a spot.
