Where to stay in Val-David, a room above the pub
You roll in at dusk. Tired legs. Just off Le P'tit Train du Nord, your back a little stiff, the light dropping low. You think to yourself, wow, what a day. And the real question shows up. Where are we sleeping tonight?
Here's our answer. You're already in front of us.
Dinner downstairs, bed upstairs
MacTaverne is a British-style pub in the former home of Le Baril Roulant, with an auberge upstairs. Mike in the kitchen, Tim at the bar. Three generations of the Robertson family have kept the place running since June 19, 2025.
The idea is simple. You lock up the bike, you come in, you have dinner. And when getting back on the road sounds like a bad idea, you go up. Dinner downstairs, bed upstairs. That's our kind of luxury.
No car needed. No second village to go find. You've already arrived. See the pub for what's waiting downstairs in the evening.
Seven rooms, no more
There are seven rooms upstairs, each with a private bathroom. Five queen rooms. One family room, a queen plus a single bed. One room with two single beds.
Seven rooms, no more. Enough to host people, not enough to become anonymous. We always end up knowing who's sleeping upstairs.
Breakfast is included, served 8:00 to 10:00. Check-in is from 16:00, check-out is 11:00. In the morning you eat, then you carry on when your legs come back. No hard wake-up, no rush.
Built for people who arrive by trail
We're about an hour from Montreal, directly on Le P'tit Train du Nord, right across from the Rivière du Nord. There's secure locked bike storage, and free on-site parking for overnight guests. You leave the bike dry, you leave the car alone, and you head up to bed.
Dogs are welcome in one designated room only, with advance notice and a $60 cleaning fee. Let us know ahead of time and we'll sort it out.
It's all on the auberge page, the rooms, the details, the rest.
Book direct
It's a good plan. A lot of people discover it once, then do it again on purpose.
When you're ready, book direct at direct-book.com/properties/hotelhibou. Book direct: best rate, more flexibility, and it really helps us.
We'll keep a candle on the table, a pint cold, and a room upstairs. See you in Val-David.
