Where to Stay in Val-David: A Room Above the Pub
You roll in at dusk. Tired legs. Just off Le P’tit Train du Nord.
You think to yourself, wow. What a day.
Val-David is slowing down. The Rivière du Nord is moving across the road. Your table looks ready, and your room is definitely upstairs.
MacTaverne is an auberge in Val-David, in the old Le Baril Roulant building, right on Le P’tit Train du Nord and beside the Rivière du Nord. Downstairs, a pub. Upstairs, seven rooms.
Simple enough.
Dinner Downstairs
Staying above a pub keeps the evening easy.
You check in from 4. Bags upstairs. If you came by bike, it goes in the locked bike room.
Then you come down.
Mike is in the kitchen. Tim is at the bar. The room fills the way a pub should, glasses arriving, jackets coming off, someone deciding they do have room for one more pint.
This is the part we like. No shuttle. No car keys on the table. No one doing the math on the drive back to Montreal.
Your table is here. Your room is here too.
Dinner downstairs, bed upstairs. That is our kind of luxury.
The Walk Upstairs
Seven rooms, no more. Enough to host you, not enough to become anonymous.
Five are queen rooms. One is a family room, a queen and a single, good for two adults and a child. One is a twin, two single beds, good for friends on the trail together. Every room has its own bathroom.
Warm light, sloped ceilings, a good bed. A proper place to sleep, a few steps from a good dinner.
Riding the trail, walking the village, or just here for dinner? Come in, eat well, sleep upstairs, carry on in the morning.
Breakfast By The River
Breakfast is included, every morning from 8 to 10.
Come down when you are ready. The bikes are still locked up. The trail is still there. The Rivière du Nord is still across the road.
Some ride on. Some walk the village first. Some take their time, since check-out is at 11.
A private bathroom in every room. Free parking, with overflow lots close by.
Nothing fussy. Just enough that the night feels handled.
Stay A While
MacTaverne opened here on June 19, 2025, in a building Val-David already knew well. Le Baril Roulant meant something to a lot of people. We are the new family in the old home. Mike in the kitchen, Tim at the bar, seven rooms upstairs.
Maybe you arrive off the trail at dusk. Maybe you came for dinner and the second pint made driving home sound like a poor life choice. Maybe you just want a room in Val-David, close to the village, the river, and the table downstairs.
Book direct when you can. Reserve a table if you want dinner too.
The bike room will be locked. Breakfast is from 8 to 10. Your room is upstairs.
Eat well. Stay a while. You are always welcome here.
