Terrasse Season in Val-David: Open As Soon As the Sun Shows Up

MacTaverne’s terrasse is reopening in Val-David — officially June 15, 2026, unofficially every sunny day before that. Guinness, fish & chips, and the rivière du Nord. Book a table or stay the night.

The snow is melting. The birds are back. The first pints of Guinness of the season are sitting in the sunshine, patient, like they’ve been waiting on us for six months.

At MacTaverne, the terrasse overlooking the rivière du Nord is opening again. Officially on June 15. Unofficially? Every time the sun decides to do its job.

When can I sit outside?

Whenever it's nice out. This spring. Today if the weather agrees.
Our rule is simple: if the sun shows up, the terrasse is open. Check our Instagram or give us a call — we'll tell you if the parasols are out.
Official full-season opening is June 15, 2026. From then on, we're outside every day, lunch and dinner, all summer long.

Why our terrasse is (probably) the best in the Laurentians

We're right beside the P'tit Train du Nord. Our patio looks straight onto the rivière du Nord. Big trees for shade when it's hot, sun when you want it. Wood tables, long benches, the sound of the water — part Scottish pub, all Laurentians, exactly right.
Pint of Guinness in hand. Fish & chips crunching. Cyclists rolling off the trail. Montreal couples coming downstairs from their auberge room. Val-David locals stopping in after work.
If you've been here before — you might remember this corner as Le Baril Roulant. Same spot, new chapter. Same river view, a new kitchen, and one excellent patio.
We've got everyone on the same terrasse. We're saving you a seat.

What we serve on the patio

Best fish & chips in the Laurentians (we're taking credit). House scotch eggs. Steak frites. Pint of Guinness, poured properly. House Caesar that gets people talking. Sticky toffee pudding if you've got room (you do).
Our full menu is served on the terrasse — nothing gets cut.

Staying over? Our seven rooms are upstairs.

MacTaverne is a pub and a 7-room boutique auberge. Dinner on the terrasse, nightcap by the fire, a good bed three flights up — you never have to drive home.

Book before the weather turns

Sunny evenings fill up fast. Reserve your table — and while you're at it, check out our seven auberge rooms if staying overnight sounds good.
